Two pauses actually:
First off, a brief night forgetting this stupid mess by going to celebrate London Restaurant Festival at Gauthier Soho, stuffing my face on this menu then staying with a friend. Sure, we stayed because technically we had no-where else to go after the hotel booking ended, but actually it just felt like the sort of thing we’d do if we were visiting someone in our normal life. A lovely evening.
And then today, we collected keys to our friend’s flat, where we’re going to get our breath back and start coordinating the massive job of getting the flat empty. It feels odd being here among someone else’s things, and we’re petrified that we’re jinxed and we’re going to make something terrible happen here too. We don’t know how long we’ll be here, if we’ll arrange to make this an official stay, but we just don’t have the spare brain space to start thinking about that. Let’s get the old place empty first.
I can’t even begin to describe what an overwhelming job it feels like right now – we went in and gawped for a moment, then gave up and came back to our new base. One for daylight tomorrow, I think.
