I feel so sorry for my brothers. They’ve always had to share a room, but just imagine how crap that must be when you’re old enough to lead your own life, but can’t. I remember how difficult it was when I spent the summer between my first and second university years at home – and I got on with my parents, had my own space, and a job which got me out of the house most days.

For one of my brothers, it’s especially difficult. He’s just finished university but can’t afford to stay in London (where he needs to be for his chosen career). Until he can get himself sorted out with jobs and affordable accommodation he’s back up here, in his childhood bedroom, with his brother.

Am I allowed to let myself be all big-sisterly and admit that part of me is glad they’re back around? It’s no fun being in a big family when you can’t go and pester a sib at a moments notice.

Anyway, Boys – good luck!

…but we’ve finally got round to putting up some pictures of Christmas Day 2005 here.

At the risk of getting soppy, I think it’s great that the world is so small. We shared Christmas with my family, but also with Lauri and Margot, great friends of my parents, and whose daughter Fliss lives in the States after marrying Greg. I suppose I’ve been thinking about this a lot after Ned moved over to Hong Kong.

It’s really important to me that there’s always going to be family around to celebrate with; it’s just you might not be related to them.

I always think people who are prepared to do something so drastic (whether it’s part of their working life or not) deserve to succeed.

Good luck, dude.
