Like always at funerals, I cried. Things were made much easier by the fact that the minister, Gary, is one of the Northern Monkeys, making it all much more personal than some of the ‘fill in the blanks’ services I’ve been to.

The thing that really made me blub was the blessing Gary used at the end:

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

She’d been ill, so it wasn’t a huge shock and in fact, all things considered, I thought the weekend was rather nice. One of my brothers had made the trek up from thatLondon to be with us all, which is always good fun – I don’t see either of the southern contingent nearly often enough.

So I was a bit surprised when I got a tip off from my mum to read my brother’s blog entry for the weekend. Looks like he’s had the worst weekend known to man.
